Flagstaff Regional Freight Study

Freight Reports

Trucks and trains are ever-present in the Flagstaff region. Nearly 100 trains a day run through Flagstaff and traffic on the I-40 consists of 50% trucks. Flagstaff Metropolitan Planning Organization (MetroPlan) believes that there is economic opportunity in freight movements and studied the issue in 2005 and updated that study in 2014.

Consolidating freight from less than trailer loads to full trailer loads can help local firms save on transportation costs. If sufficient volumes are consolidated opportunities for shifting from trucks to rail may exist. An intermodal yard handling that shift may prove attractive to future industries.
