Transportation Education AmeriCorps Member

2025-2026 Public Health AmeriCorps Program 
in Transportation Education 
at Northern Arizona University

MetroPlan’s Safe Route to School Program will proactively work to make walking and biking easier and more attractive. We will support bike to work month, right sizing streets, road closure demonstrations, and help create Safe Routes to School programs including many educational programs. These activities will directly support public health goals in the region and teach youth to be active and healthy early on.

Position start date is September 2, 2025

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Develop surveys, conduct public engagement and outreach, help lead Safe Routes to School (SRTS) events such bike to school day, research best practices, review data, develop and action plan and make recommendations. Specifically:

  • Help implement a Safe Routes to School plan and program to reduce school-related congestion and promote multimodal transportation choices. Plan should prioritize activities based on data collected by MetroPlan. Position may help fill in data gaps.

  • Supports the development and execution of communications and marketing materials, creative engagement campaigns, events, and initiatives promoting SRTS strategies.

  • Gathers, compiles, and analyzes data to identify a variety of commuting and long-term planning options. Conducts program analysis to evaluate the attractiveness and effectiveness of SRTS programs. Collects travel mode data including administration of residential, visitor, and employer travel surveys.

  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

AmeriCorps Member Eligibility Requirements:

To serve in AmeriCorps State and National, candidates must meet the following requirements: 

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States

  • Be 17 years old or older

  • Have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent; or be working to attain one while in service
